ABOUT "OF SERVICE IN ROSEMARY LANE"
On a snowy Christmas Eve of 2019, a guitar was placed in my care on behalf of the Bert Jansch Foundation. Bert Jansch was an artist I had admired for over 50 years of my life, and here the honor of hosting one of his beloved guitars, singing a few songs, and signing my name to it before passing it on to the next worthy recipient, had been bestowed upon me.
The idea was simple... hang out with guitar for a bit. Play it. Get to know it. Then I was to video myself playing a song with the guitar for the Foundation's Around the World in 80 Plays page, in Bert's loving memory.
Then suddenly the world was thrust into the Covid pandemic, and The Foundation requested that the guitar "shelter in place". It seemed that my hero's guitar was now mine to keep for a time...
Of course I did what the Foundation asked of me... both in sheltering the guitar in place, as well as videoing myself playing a few songs for Bert.
But since it seemed I had the unique opportunity to have the guitar a little longer than expected, I decided to write and record my response to Bert Jansch's influential 1971 album, "Rosemary Lane".
It was here that "Of Service in Rosemary Lane" came to be.

Limited Edition Cd - This album is my response to an album I have admired all my adult life: Rosemary Lane, by Bert Jansch, released on Reprise in 1971. Like its predecessor, my album features one voice and one guitar — a guitar sent from the Bert Jansch Foundation in London. The ten songs of the album showcase what I learned from fifty years of listening to this singular Scottish singer/guitarist.
