Come listen to my story ’bout a man named Trump / Poor billionaire, had to move into this dump / ‘Cuz one day he’d been shooting’ off his mouth / First thing you know / the county’s going’ south.
Late in October of 2016, gita and I thought it would be fun to set new Trumpian words to the Beverly Hillbillies theme song. I don’t know how the idea escalated so quickly into shooting a video. But that’s what gita set about doing —her first— while I was tasked with finishing the satirical lyrics.
The video was shot at Vaughn Avery’s workshop in Montague. He very kindly allowed her to fill it with images of family, friends and heroes. A master mime and a fine percussionist, Vaughn, calling himself a “sacrificial Republican,” brought the video to life.
To keep the production on an even keel, gita brought our friend Becky Rose Dill in to smudge and bless the parodists and the premises. Becky actually can play accordion. Amidst gales of laughter. Gita videoed the stop motion sequences at Becky’s house.
